Indie First

On November 30, more than 500 independent bookstores nationwide play host to more than 1000 local authors as guest Village-Books-Indies-Firstbooksellers for Small Business Saturday. According to the IndieBound website,  Indies First is “the brainchild of noted author Sherman Alexie, who began the movement in September via an open letter addressed to his fellow authors, asking them to “…. be a superhero for independent bookstores [and] spend an amazing day hand-selling books at your local bookstore….”

What a wonderful idea. I’m excited to be one of them. I will be at my favorite indie bookstore, Village Books, from 5-7 PM. I have been reader going to Village Books as long it has been in my community, over 30 years. It has a wonderful section of books and literature related items, has terrific author events, supports literacy. And me — on my author journey. So I’m proud to be handselling books for them.

Here’s the list of books I chose:

  1. Song of Willow Frost by Jaimie Fordsongs of willow frost
  2. Claude and Camille by Stephanie CowellClaude and Camille
  3. Maisie Dobbs by Jacqueline WinspearMassie Dobbs
  4. Outlander by Diana GabaldonOutlander
  5. The Black Stallion (a childhood favorite) by Walter FarleyBlack Stallion

Do come. Village Books is in Fairhaven. Or if you can’t come, go to the IndieBound website and order a book from your favorite bookstore. Participating stores are on this map.
